RAIZ is among the Portuguese entities with the most patent registration requests in the first half of 2022.

The research and development work produced at RAIZ , in collaboration with various Portuguese and international universities, within the scope of the inpactus project – Innovative Products and Technologies from Eucalyptus – resulted in the submission of 10 national patent applications to the National Institute of Industrial Property during the first half of 2022 .

This strong commitment to protecting the knowledge generated has placed RAIZ in 2nd place among applicants , among Companies and Universities, with the highest number of applications in the first half of 2022, according to the Semiannual Statistical Report released by the National Institute of Industrial Property ( INPI Report ).

The patent applications submitted relate to innovative processes and products resulting from different areas of research and development, such as pulp, paper, tissue, packaging, biorefinery and bioproducts, such as prebiotics and eucalyptus fiber-based biocomposites. This result follows the previous recognition by the European Patent Office, which last April placed RAIZ among the top 10 Portuguese entities, including companies and universities, with the highest number of European patents submitted to the European Office in 2021. In this way, RAIZ actively contributed to the largest ever growth in Portugal in the number of patents submitted to the European Patent Office.

This result is due to the intense and relevant R&D activity of RAIZ, in collaboration with industry and academia, the significant Tech Scouting activity that anticipates technological trends and opportunities, accompanies scientific and technological teams, safeguarding the timely protection of knowledge, and the collaboration with a team specialized in knowledge valorization, using innovative methodologies based on the concept of co-creation. This is the result of the last few years of work by the RAIZ Institute, which unequivocally positions itself as a relevant player in the national landscape in the protection and valorization of its knowledge.
